The VA And Prostate Cancer Compensation – USA Dept for Veterans Affairs Information

Those who have kin or kins who served in the Vietnam War know precisely what this is all about. Even if the old man is still alive and without prostate cancer, he must know already about the provisions that were made by the VA for men at arms who were exposed to Agent Orange during the war in the late 60s and early 70s and are now at risk of prostate cancer.

Agent Orange – there are yet a lot of Americans who still do not know what the herbicide was or what it had to do with the war; simply that it had something to do with the war in Vietnam. There are even people who think that Agent Orange may have something to do with the current war in Iraq. Well, no it doesn’t. Back in Vietnam, the enemy hid in bushes that were difficult to penetrate, and the US military had to bring the forests down so that they could give themselves a fighting chance. They did, using herbicide Agent Orange, an equal combination of 2,4,5-trichlorophenoxyacetic acid and 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid. Agent Orange also however contained some critical toxic byproduct called dioxins which may be some of the most potent carcinogens known to man.

Not all, but several veterans of the war have turned up with prostate cancer since then, with a particular class action against the United States Military sometime in the early 1980s. There are those who thought it was a farce, but that would belly the $180 million settlement that was won by the end of the case in 1884, and the subsequent charge to the VA for prostate cancer compensation for men who turned up with the disease thereafter.

Uncle Sam sure takes care of his own – men who served within that time frame from 1962 to 1975 now can get compensation if they suddenly turned up with prostate cancer; they can get compensation if they have already been treated for the disease or are currently undergoing intervention; and they can get compensation if the disease has been treated already and they happened to suffer a relapse of the condition sometime later. In addition, men who die or have died from the disease get to have their families compensated also.

There are a lot of details included in the US government established Agent Orange Act, which can be found on the website of the United States Department for Veterans Affairs. Anyone interested should really get a look and realize that they really don’t have to suffer so much anymore. Uncle Sam sure takes care of his own.
