Rudi Giuliani and Prostate Cancer – A True American Stateman’s Fight With Cancer

Rudolph William Louis “Rudy” Giuliani is not doubt one of the best things that ever happened to the United States, notwithstanding the revelations about his personal life that spawned the high profile scandal of the year 2000. This is a man who served two terms as Mayor of New York City, and was credited with initiating all kind of improvements in the city, raising its quality of life, and instigating a reduction in crime like has not been seen since the days before organized crime ran amok in the city. So he ran for the United States Senate but withdraw because he had extramarital affairs; but the truth is that that wasn’t the only reason why he left the race ? the man had prostate cancer, and that was soon to be made known to the public shortly after.

You have never known a true man until you have seen a man thrive in the face of adversity. I am not speaking of how Rudy Giuliani gained international attention for his leadership during and after the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center in 2001; or how Time named him “Person of the Year,” and he received the honorary knighthood from England’s Queen as a result; or his attempted comeback into politics in the 2007/2008 presidential race. No, you know all of that, and I think any politician in public office would have done precisely the same things, unless they weren’t in their right mind; what I’m about is his triumph over prostate cancer after all the treatment he had to receive.

I am not about to introduce you to prostate cancer, the second leading cancer killer in the United States, and one of the biggest causes of impotence that you know; but I should intimate you on some of the worst symptoms of the condition, and what it usually entails when you get diagnosed with such a disease. You must have heard about how it has no symptoms in its early stages, meaning the prostate cancer is no longer early by the time you start to feel pain while urinating or pain in intercourse. It must have been how he even knew that he had the disease.

Rudy Guiliani is impotent today because during his prostate cancer treatment, he wasn’t administered hormone therapy only, but radiation therapy as well. One of the chief side effects of these treatments is inability to achieve an erection, even if you can still achieve arousal and orgasm; there are just too many sensitive nerves in the area, any one of them could get damaged and that would do it.

And it was through that period that he went with a bitter and public divorce while the paparazzi had a field day with his pictures and all kinds of news about him on the front pages of the papers, and yes, he had to withdraw from the public eye for just a bit. But you can’t keep a good man down; it was only a question of time before he was back, all smiles and determination. Having done a bit in the past, the man was back looking to help improve the lives of people all across surface of the globe as the president of the United States. People will say what they will, but you have got to hand it to him: the man knows how to impact lives with his own life.
