For some unknown reason, it appears as though the incidence of prostate cancer is higher in certain regions of the world than in others. This knowledge is similar to much that has been discovered about cancers generally across the globe, especially since there is so little that is understood about the disease. Cancer rates vary by gender, race, and geographic region; more men than women develop cancer; and African Americans tend to be more likely to develop cancer than people of any other racial group in North America; and the reasons why this is so are poorly understood by the medical and research community.

The frequency of prostate cancer certainly varies globally as well, and it appears to be more common in wealthy Western countries. Men of all age groups can develop the cancer, but like most other cancer types, it is more common in men over the age of 50. Perhaps it is due to some unknown environmental factor; certainly many of the risk factors for prostate cancer are more prevalent in the developed world, especially with respect to diets which are rich in red meat constituents, reduced-fat dairy products, and vitamin A palmitate, and poorer in portions of fruits and vegetables.

The IARC worldwide prostate cancer incidence statistics in 2001 revealed not startlingly that the rates of detection of prostate cancers vary widely across the world, with South and East Asia detecting less frequently than in Europe and especially the United States. And on another hand, even though more American men die of the condition than Africans, autopsies carried out on Chinese, German, Israeli, Jamaican, Swedish, and Ugandan men who were already dead by other causes determined that actually thirty percent of men in their 50s, and in eighty percent of men in their 70s generally have the disease even if it happens to be something else that kills them.

So what are the facts?

Prostate cancer develops gradually over many years, the result of an intricate and multifarious mix of ecological, dietary, behavioral, and inherited factors; but even though scientists do not completely understand the causes of prostate cancer this much is certain, but they know that certain lifestyle choices can reduce the risk of developing the condition, and certain other lifestyle choices can complicate that for you. You definitely want to work on eating a much healthier diet, rich in vitamins A, D, and E; and you want to do some moderate exercising for no less than 30 minutes a day to lower your risk of the disease; those two for starters.

There are countless anti-aging creams and lotions, but there really is no way to sincerely stop yourself from aging; so even though you have a higher risk of prostate cancer the older you grow, you can only resign to working with what you can manipulate.
