In the last quarter of 2012 the staff of the office of the Governor of California announced that he has prostate cancer and would going for a radiotherapy treatment.

It appears the treatment is over as Governor Jerry Brown is now ‘raring’ to go. He pronounced himself fit and ready to continue the task of running the state fully once again.

Here is a recent online post in the Mercury News published January 8, 2012,that provides details on this pronouncement:

Gov. Jerry Brown said Tuesday he’s “finished” with his treatments for prostate cancer and pronounced himself fit for the rough haul ahead, which includes rolling out the state budget Thursday.

“I’m ready,” he said at a Capitol news conference. “I’m rarin’ to go. Don’t expect me to leave too soon.”

The 74-year old governor was feisty at his first news conference of the year — the first since his staff revealed he was undergoing cancer treatment. Announcing that he was filing an appeal to end federal control of the state’s prisons, Brown jabbed at criminal lawyers “wandering around prisons looking for problems” and criticized the federal court’s “special master” for producing 25 reports that he said nobody has read.

He even poked fun at reporters, saying they probably wouldn’t withstand the glare of federal oversight.

Last month, Brown’s staff announced that he was undergoing treatment for prostate cancer and would make a full recovery after a “short course” of radiotherapy.

In April 2011, the governor had a cancerous growth removed from the right side of his nose in a procedure that required reconstructive surgery. Source.

Its good to see that Governor is back to the business of running the state of California. Men diagnosed with prostate cancer should learn from this situation as there is still much hope that the condition can be treated.

Early diagnoses and early treatments improve the chances of survival for the individual.

Prostate cancer can be treated by surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, hormonal therapy or active surveillance.
