Why Prostate Cancer Awareness Matters

Prostate cancer strikes one of every six men. According to the National Cancer Society, there are over 240,000 new cases of prostate cancer diagnosed in 2011, and nearly 34,000 men died from the disease in 2011.

Prostate cancer is a “silent killer,” since there generally are few symptoms until the disease is advanced. “Prostate cancer is highly treatable if caught prior to metastasis, but detection and diagnosis are critical,” Robert Hess said.
