Why Prostate Cancer Screening Programs Are Important

Prostate cancer screening programs can include any system in place where men, whether well and symptom free or not, over the age of about 40 or more, receive screening or PSA blood test to determine whether they have prostate cancer or not.

Knowing the importance of early detection of prostate cancer, there is the need for governments around the world, especially in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia and Canada, to initiate prostate cancer screening programs.

Even though not all these governments have really gone ahead with the prostate cancer screening programs, the importance cannot be overemphasized.

These prostate cancer screening programs will include screening with the PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) test.

The PSA test has helped to save many men from prostate cancer because of early detection.

By encouraging men to undergo a PSA test during prostate cancer screening programs, this will help to show the cancer in men that wouldn’t have gone for the test themselves.

Even when asked, I discovered that most men with prostate cancer admitted that their lives were saved because of the PSA tests they had. If they didn’t do the PSA tests, they felt they would have remained ignorant while the cancer is growing inside them.

Also, when asked further, they admitted that these programs will go a long way in saving other men’s lives.

To show you the great importance of early PSA tests through these screening programs, imagine if you discovered many years later that your cancer has spread. You will be very angry and wonder why you were not informed about this through some sort of prostate cancer screening programs by the government.
