Other Prostate Problems with Symptoms of Prostate Cancer

The prostate gland is a small walnut size organ situated below the bladder and enclosing the urethra. It is still positioned near the base of the rectum. This gland is only found in men and it forms part of the reproductive system in men. The function of this organ is to produce fluid that transports sperm during intercourse.

That being said, this organ can be bedeviled with lots of problems which can cause discomforts, pains, or even death for the man. The common sign that shows the prostate is not in a good condition is when it gets enlarged and bring about pains and discomforts for the person.

Prostate cancer is a common problem that affects the prostate gland. It occurs when   cancerous tumors originates from the cells of the prostate. The cancerous cells can metastasize and damage other organs in the body.

Apart from prostate cancer, there are other conditions that can affect the prostate these include:

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) – This condition results when there is an enlargement of the prostate gland. The enlargement in this case is not due to cancerous cells. Most men, who are aging, naturally experience enlargement of their prostate gland and this may cause problems for them. Difficulty in urination and the frequent need to urinate are some of the common symptoms of this type of cancer.

Prostatitis – This is a situation whereby the prostate has been infected. The infection causes the enlargement and the discomforts experienced by individuals. Certain bacteria are responsible for this condition. Prostatitis can be acute or chronic, with the latter causing a condition known as Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome (CPPS). Prostatitis can be treated with antibiotics and the combination of other medications like lifestyle changes and surgery.

Symptoms common to prostate problems

If you experience one or more of the following symptoms then it is possible you would be diagnosed of prostate cancer, Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), or Prostatitis:

  • Dribbling of urine
  • painful ejaculation
  • blood in the urine
  • frequent and urgent need to urinate at night
  • blood in the semen
  • frequent pain in the hip, lower back, upper thighs, and rectal area, etc

So, prostate cancer is not the only condition that affects the prostate. BPH and Prostatitis are other conditions that show similar symptoms. It is important to visit a doctor or an urologist to do proper test and confirm the exact condition affecting you.
